ACHROMATIC LENSES

Achromatic lens, also known as double bonded lens, is made by bonding concave and convex lenses made of two materials with different refractive indices and dispersion rates, which can greatly reduce or eliminate chromatic aberration. In order to achieve better performance, the surface with a larger curvature radius (flat surface) should be oriented away from the collimated beam. Color difference arises from the difference in dispersion and refractive index of light of different wavelengths in the transmitting material, which causes light of different wavelengths to converge at different focal points. The double bonded achromatic lens compensates for the dispersion of the two materials through the bonding design of lenses made of different materials, thereby reducing the overall color difference.
Compared to spherical lenses and non spherical lenses, achromatic cemented lenses are less affected by the centrality of the beam axis. The focal length remains basically unchanged over a wide wavelength range. When a white light source is used with a single lens, color difference will blur the focal point and the minimum blur circle. Color difference is caused by lenses having different refractive indices for different wavelengths. Achromatic adhesive lenses use two materials with different refractive indices to eliminate chromatic aberration.
